Data: 92% of PC Game Sales are Digital

PC game downloads make up 92% of global PC game sales, according to recent data from DFC Intelligence.

The numbers suggest the upcoming end of packaged boxed PC games at retailers, disrupted by the ease of use of PC game downloads.  PC gamers were early adopters of game downloads, with growth boosted by large hard drives, network connectivity and Steam.

DFC Intelligence, a leading industry analyst group, predicts digital share of PC game sales to continue to grow, with the percentage of physical game sales continuing to drop on PC.

Console game sales are also shifting to digital, but traditional retail still remains a major factor in a game’s success.
