GREE has offices throughout the world and creates leading browser and mobile games, but in the ever-changing video game industry, what are the company’s 1894 employees working on?
A recent release to investors segmented employees by group, and the numbers are telling of the company’s current status and where it hopes to go.
GREE is still transitioning from browser based games to natively developed mobile games, and based on these numbers from March 2014, the company has 723 employees working on native games and 694 employees still making web games. In a telling sign of GREE’s ambitions towards international growth outside of Japan (and the labor market), the company has more employees creating native games outside of Japan (400) than in Japan (323).
Perhaps the company’s strongest asset is a large shared engineering team at corporate. Composed of 237 employees, GREE’s development studios can likely leverage the shared engineering group for technology best practices, testing services across devices and expanded R&D.
